How The Glad Reader handles information, and the choices you have.

The Glad Reader is operated by Media Hogg LLC. This policy covers our app and thegladreader.com. For privacy questions or requests, email support@thegladreader.com.
Your device and reading choices
No sign-in is required to read. Topic choices, opened-update history, your analytics preference, and the version and date of your terms acceptance are stored on your device. These settings support your feeds and remember your choices. Subscription and alert registration use a separate random installation identifier and device authorization secret; the secret is stored securely on your device.
Usage analytics
Usage analytics is on by default. The app sends topic follow/unfollow actions and update-open events to our service. You can stop future reports in Settings → Privacy → Opt out of usage analytics. An update open is not proof that someone read the whole update.
Aggregate counts, not personal profiles
Our usage endpoint immediately adds events to monthly totals by topic or update. It does not store individual event records, names, email addresses, account IDs, persistent device IDs, advertising IDs, precise locations, or a combined personal reading history. Counts measure actions, not unique people or exact follower totals. We use them to understand readership and improve coverage. We do not infer political beliefs from these totals or use them for personalized political persuasion.
Network information and service providers
Requests to our website and API expose IP addresses and technical request information to our hosting provider. Hosting, security, and operational logs may contain those details. They are separate from our aggregate analytics. We use service providers to host and protect the service and handle support correspondence. We may disclose information where required by law or reasonably necessary to protect the service or people. We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
Advertising and tracking
App builds with advertising enabled use Google AdMob and may also show approved direct sponsorships. Ads appear between feed updates or below opened updates, clearly marked Paid Ad, never within the body. We request non-personalized ads and do not send followed topics, update text, reading history or inferred beliefs to Google for ad targeting. Non-personalized ads still involve technical data: Google may process IP addresses, device and app information, identifiers, ad interactions and diagnostic information to deliver and measure ads and prevent fraud. Where required, we ask for advertising consent and provide Ad privacy choices in Settings → Privacy. Usage analytics opt-out is separate from advertising privacy choices. Our website uses functional cookies for administrator sign-in; hosting and security services process technical requests. The app uses local storage for its settings.
Support and sponsorship enquiries
If you email us or apply through our sponsorship form, we receive your name, email address and the information you choose to send, such as your organization, budget and message. Applications are stored privately on our website and emailed to our support team. We use these details to respond and manage your enquiry. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, or unnecessary sensitive information.
Retention and deletion
Local settings remain until you reset them or clear the app’s storage; platform backup behavior may affect removal. Opting out stops new analytics reports and cancels reports pending in the app, but cannot identify or remove your contribution to totals already aggregated. We retain aggregate totals for ongoing product and coverage analysis. Subscription verification and notification records are retained while needed to deliver access, resolve transactions, prevent misuse, and meet legal obligations. Support correspondence, sponsorship applications, payment records and operational records are kept as needed for support, security, and legal obligations; hosting logs are subject to provider retention settings. Contact support@thegladreader.com to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information we can identify. Clearing storage does not cancel a store subscription.
AI-assisted editorial work and external sources
We use AI services to help prepare and independently review editorial content using source material. The reading app does not send your local reading history or topic preference profile to these services for update generation. External source links open third-party services inside the app with their own policies. Accuracy reports send the update identifier and a random report request identifier to our service for investigation; no personal details are included.
Website contributions
Voluntary website contributions use a hosted checkout. Our payment provider processes your payment details; we receive the payment status, amount and contact details needed for payment records and support. We do not receive full card details. Contributions are one-time support and do not create an app subscription or include advertising.
Payments and notifications
Free reading has no daily limit or trial countdown. Pro removes ads and unlocks important House and Senate bill alerts. Your app store handles purchase payment and the store account; we do not receive your card details or store password. Our subscription verification provider processes a random app customer identifier, store transaction and subscription information, and technical device/app information to verify access, restore purchases and handle renewals, cancellations or refunds. Our service stores the installation/customer identifiers and verified entitlement/expiry. If you enable alerts, we store your selected alert topics, timezone and notification delivery token. Our notification delivery providers process the token and notification payload to deliver alerts. These records are separate from aggregate usage analytics and are not used for ad targeting. Username sign-in credentials are verified by our service; passwords are not stored in readable form.
Your rights, children, and changes
The service is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information. Depending on where you live, you may have privacy rights, including access, correction, deletion, or objection. We will respond as applicable to your request. Material privacy changes will be explained in the app or on this site; this page shows the current effective date.
