How The Glad Reader handles information, and the choices you have.

The Glad Reader is operated by Media Hogg LLC. This policy covers our app and thegladreader.com. For privacy questions or requests, email support@thegladreader.com.
Your device and reading choices
No account is required in the current app. Topic choices, opened-article history, election-display preferences, your analytics preference, and the version and date of your terms acceptance are stored on your device. These settings support your feeds and remember your choices.
Usage analytics
Usage analytics is on by default. The app sends topic follow/unfollow actions and article-open events to our service. You can stop future reports in Settings → Privacy → Opt out of usage analytics. An article open is not proof that someone read the whole article.
Aggregate counts, not personal profiles
Our usage endpoint immediately adds events to monthly totals by topic or article. It does not store individual event records, names, email addresses, account IDs, persistent device IDs, advertising IDs, precise locations, or a combined personal reading history. Counts measure actions, not unique people or exact follower totals. We use them to understand readership and improve coverage. We do not infer political beliefs from these totals or use them for personalized political persuasion.
Network information and service providers
Requests to our website and API expose IP addresses and technical request information to our hosting provider, Hostinger. Hosting, security, and operational logs may contain those details. They are separate from our aggregate analytics. We use service providers to host and protect the service and handle support correspondence. We may disclose information where required by law or reasonably necessary to protect the service or people. We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
No ads, no tracking pixels
The Glad Reader has no ads or advertising-tracking SDK. These website pages do not set analytics or advertising cookies, embed tracking pixels, or load third-party fonts. Technical hosting services may process requests for security and delivery. The app uses local storage for its settings.
Support emails
If you contact support@thegladreader.com, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. We use it to respond, investigate problems, and maintain a support record. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, or unnecessary sensitive information.
Retention and deletion
Local settings remain until you reset them or clear the app’s storage; platform backup behavior may affect removal. Opting out stops new analytics reports and cancels reports pending in the app, but cannot identify or remove your contribution to totals already aggregated. We retain aggregate totals for ongoing product and coverage analysis. Support correspondence and operational records are kept as needed for support, security, and legal obligations; hosting logs are subject to provider retention settings. Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information we can identify.
Earlier test versions
Some earlier test versions optionally submitted topic preferences with a random device identifier. The current app no longer sends those reports. Historical records may remain separately on the service; they are excluded from aggregate analytics. An earlier explicit opt-out is respected. Contact us about an older test record; we may need the relevant identifier to locate it.
AI-assisted editorial work and external sources
We use OpenAI services to help prepare and independently review editorial content using source material. The reading app does not send your local reading history or topic preference profile to OpenAI for article generation. External source links open third-party services with their own policies.
Payments and notifications
Purchases and phone alerts are not active in the current test version. Selecting a displayed plan does not create a subscription or charge you. Before enabling these features, we will disclose the applicable store-billing, purchase-record, notification-token, and permission practices. The app will remain ad-free.
Your rights, children, and changes
The service is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information. Depending on where you live, you may have privacy rights, including access, correction, deletion, or objection. We will respond as applicable to your request. Material privacy changes will be explained in the app or on this site; this page shows the current effective date.
